It looks like Google may have finally hired a graphic designer. Check out this page and this page.

With today’s announcement by Apple regarding the new 1GB iPod Nano and a price drop for the shuffle, I’m going to have to do everythin in my power to stop myself from buying the 1GB shuffle. At $99, the fact that this baby doubles as a thumb drive and an iPod makes it hard to resist. I do need a new thumb drive anyway. Even still, at $99 it’s about $40 more than a comparable thumb drive.
Convince me not to buy?

Being such a huge fan of Apple and now working for Disney, I’ve been glued to news sites since reading about the ‘real Mr. Incredible.’ Steve Jobs, owner of Pixar, and Disney seem to be working out a deal worth about $7 billion that would make Jobs the largest private shareholder of Disney stock by about 4%. While Disney buying Pixar seems sensible based Disney’s non-Pixar box office record, no one is quite sure what this will mean for Disney as a corporation but the effects could be huge. BusinessWeek even thinks this could mean that Jobs could eventually assume the position of chairman on Disney’s Board.
Although I think it’s highly unlikely Jobs would become chairman anytime in the near future, having the head of Apple on board could brighten the future of Disney. Talk about a change in philosophies for a company so grounded in tradition. I think it could be a welcome shake up based on Jobs’ track record and what he has done for the once, almost dead Apple. Who knows, maybe I’ll even be using a Mac in the next few months.

What? An update? I know, crazy….get over it.
I recently downloaded the new version of iTunes that was released during Apple’s recent event, MacWorld. Once I got everything installed, I was pretty pissed about this huge ‘ministore’ at the bottom. Sure, it would recommend music based on what I was listening to at the moment and provide me links to more songs by the same artist (of course to be purchased through iTMS but the damn thing limited my screen space within iTunes by about 30%.
Well, thankfully Apple has taken the criticism on the chin and decided to have the ‘ministore’ as a opt-in only feature. So go download the new version of iTunes (6.0.2) and turn that crap off.

I won another free movie ticket from Blingo.com. Only minutes after I won, Alexis was thanking me since she gets a ticket now too. It was pretty funny.
Two side notes: First, Apple is set to reveal “one more thing…” next week. It’s rumored to be the long-awaited video iPod but we’ll see. Secondly, X05 is going on right now and I must say the Xbox 360 is looking mighty impressive. Check out some videos for PGR 3, Gears of War, Too Human, Mass Effect, and SplinterCell.

One thing that has really bugged me about Firefox for OS X, is it’s inability to side scroll via the two-finger method on newer Powerbook trackpads. Instead, side scrolling in Firefox results in navigating backward or foreward just like you are clicking the back or forward button. It was so bad that it got to the point where I was considering switching back to Safari. Before I did so, I thought I’d do a quick search on the subject which directed me to a thread on the MacRumors forums.
I found this application saving fix for the issue:
Before you proceed, please know that you are editing the config file of Firefox and while you should easily by able to revert to previous settings, I am not responsible if this crashes your browser or even your system.
Type “about:config” in the Firefox address bar. Look for the below fields and change them to match the values below:
mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action to 0
mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines to 2

On the heals of my FontExplorer X recommendation, I wanted to point out a great site that offers 300 free truetype fonts. Start downloading here.

I’ve gone through phases with downloading icons, clip art, and desktop wallpapers. For all of these downloads, there is a organization tool which helps prevent duplicates and also provides other additional features like exporting any icon as a PNG. More recently, I have started collecting fonts. OS X ships with ‘Font Book’, which is perfectly fine for previewing fonts. However, if you want to really organize your fonts you need an expensive programs like Extensis Suitcase or Font Agent Pro. Both are great programs but for the intermediate user that is not quite font junkie, there is a new program on the block.

I was just listening to Leo Leporte’s KFI podcast (Episode #173) and as is always the case when I listen to Leo’s podcasts, learning something I can’t believe I didn’t know.
Apparently, Powerbooks (the newer ones at least) feature auto sensing ethernet ports. What does that mean? Well if you’ve ever wanted to transfer files from on computer to another without a wireless or wired network, you’ll know that you typically need a crossover cable to allow the two computers to connect. It seems that Powerbooks (and maybe other Apple models) have the ability to determine that you are attempting to connect two computers directly to each other and with a standard ethernet cable will reverse the port connections, simulating a crossover cable.
Brillant!

I’ve decided to finally close the comments for the ‘Vote or Die post. Honestly, it was meant to be a short fun little poll but it’s quickly turned into a combination of ridiculous remarks and immature banter.
With that…thanks for ‘voting.’

Unless you were under a rock, you probably knew that Apple sent out invitations to a ‘music related’ event dated today. Thoughts varied about the ‘announcements’ that were impending but in the end, the speculation was spot on.
I just realized that the ‘nano’ is really the replacement for the ‘mini’ so my frustation with Apple was slightly unfounded. With that being said, they should have not went back to the 2GB and 4GB size factors.

I’m pretty excited to announce the completion of Blue Ribbons Baskets.net.
I was contacted by my Uncle to do this website for their gift basket business. I came up with a design that they liked and then turned that into what you see. I also made the logo you see above, which really isn’t anything special at the moment but I’m am certainly planning on sprucing up.
Let me know what you think of the site, what you’d change, and if anything looks weird in the browser you are using.

Although Sony and Nintendo have yet to announce any pricing details on their next-gen gaming systems, the PS3 and the Revolution, Microsoft has broken the ice today at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany. The Xbox 360 will be offered in two varieties starting from $299 US. Dubbed as the ‘casual gamer’ package, the $299 package includes an Xbox 360, a wired controller, and the standard a/v cables. If your willing to drop $399 US for the ‘hardcore gamer’ pack, you’ll return home with a Xbox 360, a wireless controller, a 20GB hard drive, a Xbox live headset, a Xbox Live Silver membership, and for a limited time a bonus media remote. Those are the facts and the following is my reaction.
Video games are getting out of control. I’m a gamer, I enjoy games, but I’ve continually been feeling like the industry is beginning to force gamers to make a choice. ‘Hardcore gamers’ will always buy the newest system almost regardless of price and in the past I’ve considered myself part of that niche group. Lately, I’ve moved away from that stance for purely financial reasons. At $399 for the ‘anything worthwhile’ Xbox 360 package I feel like I’m going to be waiting until a price drop for the new console before I buy. With games most likely making the move from $50/each to $59/each, buying an Xbox 360 with one game plus taxes will run you very close to $500. That’s just too much.

My homegirl, Abbie, started up a fantasy football league through ESPN. Sign up for it here and do so quickly. There are only 10 spots available and they should go pretty quickly.
Also, there may be another league set up depending on the response this one generates (and yes, you can sign up for both if we do a second one).

Picture a wave coming with two surfers paddling for the same wave. Let’s say one surfer, named Bob, is on the left hand side (facing the beach) of surfer number 2, named Albert. The approaching wave has both a left and right hand shoulder so ideally one Bob would go left leaving the right for Albert. Unfortunately, Bob is paddling as though he is going to go right so Albert, being the surfer with proper surfing etiquette begins to pull out of the wave to allow Bob to go right. Bob then turns at the last second and goes left, leaving Albert with no wave and only a sour taste in his mouth.
As tip to the wise, don’t be a Bob.

Apple has finally introduced a two-button scroll mouse entitle the Mighty Mouse. Typical of Apple, the design is impeccable and it looks like this is the mouse all mac users have been awaiting…or is it? Why oh why is there no bluetooth version? As excited as I am to see Apple wise up and bite the two-button mouse bullet, I just can’t make the purchase until they introduce a wireless version. Pretty please Apple…
